Science Fair: The competition
Assalamu alaikum!
The actual judging for CE2, CM1 and CM2 will be on FRIDAY April 25 inshaAllah from 16:00 - 18:30.
Only the students preselected will be allowed to participate.
I have asked several students to redo their presentations (cardboard boxes) as they do not follow the standards. If this has not been done before the competition, unfortunately, they will not be able to present.
We need judges! If you are scientifically orientated, you are welcome to be a part of the jury (for other grade levels)! I will be calling you to see your availability inshaAllah.
You are also very welcome to attend la ceremonie de cloture et remise des prix Saturday 26 April from 10 am to 14 pm. This will also be a time for the public to see the experiments done across all levels!
See you there!

Letter 3 to JPDS
Dear Trailblazers,
We hope that you all
are well! We hope to answer the questions that you asked us!
Our names have very
different meanings:
Aminah: This is the
name of the Prophet’s Muhammad mother.
Maryam: She was
among the best women on Earth, and is the mother of the prophet Isa (Jesus).
Fatima: This name
means when a baby starts drinking milk. Fatima is also the name of one of the
Prophet’s daughter.
Karima: Generous
Malick: King or
Master
Hawa: This is the
name in Arabic of the first woman on Earth (Eve).
Cheikh: a learnt
person, scholar
Dauda: This is one
of the Prophets names (David) in Arabic.
ZamZam (our teacher): It literally means
stop. It is the name of a well in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. Pilgrims drink this
water when they go on Hajj (pilgrimage).
Mame Anta: This name is an original Senegalese
name but it doesn’t have a meaning. Well, let’s say that we don’t know as yet.
Mame Anta could not find out.
Coura: Another original Senegalese name. We don’t know
what it means.
Senegal is a very
diverse country. Senegal has many markets and many beaches. The country is
divided into 14 regions. We live in the region called Dakar. In Dakar, you can
see many taxis in the roads and many cars. It never snows here. There is no
winter. In Senegal, most people are Black. There are no movie theatres here.
(There are 1 or 2 theatres: Mme ZamZam).
None of the people in our class have
pets. (Pets meaning dogs and cats etc, but many students do have goats, chicken
and sheep at home: Mme ZamZam).
We hope to hear from you soon!
Sincerely,
Faraasha Grade 4
TRIP TO THIADIAYE BY AWA AND MARYAM
Assalamu alaikum!
I hope that you all are passing a wonderful few days off!
My students were so excited after coming back from Thiadaye! Here are the thoughts of Awa and Maryam.

Assalamu alaikum.
We will be taking a field trip this Friday inshaAllah to Thiadiaye to visit the village and the masjid that IQRA helped create inshaAllah.
We have started helping this village more than 2 years ago and many people became Muslims through the efforts of the IQRA BA staff.
Grade 4 is especially invited as we contributed the most to the HELP OUR UMMAH donation drive!
Please have the forms completed and returned by tomorrow inshaAllah if you want your child to go!
Students should wear closed shoes, bring LOTS of water and extra snacks!
They will be going to Thiadiaye with Mme Sarr, Mme Gaye and Mme Aidara.
Best.

Dear fourth graders in Dakar,
We are happy to answer some of your questions. The colour of our school is red and brown and made of bricks. We pray at our school every day( every morning, and for fifth and sixth graders mornings and afternoon.) We pray for a half hour on every day except for Thursdays. On Thursdays, we pray for forty-five minutes. On Friday we don’t pray in the morning, but we all gather together for the early beginning of the Sabbath. Sometimes we pray standing up, and sometimes sitting down. Our school is not very big. It only has two floors. We have two campuses, one for little kids, and one for older kids. We have fun and interesting field trips. We are currently learning about religions, so our trips right now are usually to different places of worship. So far we have been to a mosque and a church. We enjoy this because it is interesting to learn about different religions besides ours.
A lot of us have pets. They are:
Gabriel: Two cats
Rachel: Two guinea pigs
Naomi: One dog
Shira: One dog
Evan: One bird
Rochelle: Two guinea pigs
Jacob: One dog
Only seven out of seven-teen of us have pets. Most of us love using toys. We like to use Legos, Playmobile, blocks, and some of the girls have these popular dolls called American Girl Dolls. Most of the kids have iPods or iTouches.
Some of our names have meanings:
Dalia: flower
Tamar: date (the food)
Ezra: help
Shira: song
Naomi: pleasant
Hanina ( our teacher): forgiveness, mercy, and grace
Rochelle and Rachel: motherly
Anya: favor\grace
Yona: dove and peaceful
Evan: stone
Joseph ( Joey): adding
Nava: beautiful
Josie: god will give
Jacob: heel ( of a foot)
Matan: gift
We have questions for you.
What do your names mean? Do any of you have siblings? Do any of you have pets?
Sincerely,
4th grade Trailblazers
The Science Fair needs your help!
Assalamu alaikum!
I hope that you are all resting well!
The IQRA Science Fair 2014 will be indeed the biggest event of the academic year inshaAllah. We are still securing a suitable place to hold the ceremony and sponsorship money.
Students should have received their cardboard boxes yesterday. Please do not put anything on the box until it is verified!!! Je voudrais vérifier toutes les expériences d'abord et expliquer aux élèves comment préparer les cartons inshaAllah lundi.
We will be also calling you to see how you can help us with the event!
Best!
